Before You Can Start To Save, You Need To Work Out Your Capacity To Save

• Firstly you need to write down all sources that you receive income from.
• After you have worked out your income, you need to then work out your expenses. The best way to do this is to complete a comprehensive budget.
• Now you need to subtract the expense from the income figure and this will then let you know what your net position is. Do you have a surplus amount of cash? Do you have a negative amount of cash?

Income greater than expenses = Savings

To start to save you will need to have a surplus amount in your budget. If the surplus amount you have is not sufficient to meet your requirements, or if you currently have a deficit, you have two options.
