Children : School
- Start early to plan for your children’s education. Put money aside in a savings account when they are babies so you are building up some money ready for the big day when they head off in their uniform to start school. You might commence with $10, $15 or $20 a week.
- Think carefully about where you want your children educated. Will you opt for public schooling, private schooling, independent schooling or home education? Some things to consider will be the education the child will receive, how many children you have and if you can afford to give them all the same education, the child’s ability to learn in different environments, the school’s expectation of you as a parent, any special needs your child has, location of schools etc.
- Fully understand the costs you will need to outlay during the full term that you child is attending the school. Some private / independent schools have enrolment fees, school tuition fees, donations / building fund fees, resources levies, school levies, information technology levies, curriculum levies and ground levies.
- Think about walking your children to school. Grab the dog, grab the kids and all get some exercise. It is also a great time for the family to be together and all have a chat as you all walk along.
- Get to know as many other parent's and children from the school as you can. It is amazing how many times it comes in handy having someone you can call on to quickly drive your child somewhere or look after your child. This can save you significant sums of money.
